Mobile Trailer Testing
Common Problems and Complaints:
- Developed in the early 1980’s and the process hasn’t changed much since.
- Parked in an outside parking lot where…
- …cars, trucks, planes, trains, people talking, can all be very distracting to those who are trying to complete a hearing test inside the trailer
- …Hot, Cold, Humidity, Wind, Rain, Snow, Day/Night all effect productivity and the quality of hearing testing inside the trailer
- …employees who are waiting outside the trailer are often very noisy and distract those inside the trailer.
- The long walk to the trailer and back to the production line is an incredible waste of employee production time.
- Plant Managers detest the loss of productivity because 6-8-10-12 associates need to be gathered to test at once.
- With 8 associates in the trailer, 8 associates leaving the trailer, 8 associates coming to be tested, as many of 24 associates could be off the production floor for 15-30 minutes.
- Because they are outside the plant it is hard to track the associates who are purposefully not returning to their work station.
- Microprocessor hearing testing is a computerized program that is inflexible.
- Sacrifices quality for ease of use.
- Once the test starts the computer completes a time consuming program that often takes 5-10 minutes to complete.
- If the subject becomes distracted by outside noise the computer continues the test without interruption.
- Low Technician Qualifications – Often the truck driver.
- Just push the button to start the test and wait.
- No human interaction to ensure a quality and consistent hearing response is obtained.
- Rigid scheduling and specific time slots are needed for each “group” of associates
- Increased administrative time needed to prepare for annual testing.
- Schedule rarely executes as planned and scrambling to fulfill the needs of the trailer makes for a stressful day.
